Session Spotlight
Intro to Mobile App Accessibility
Wednesday, January 31, 2024 - 4:30 PM UTC, for 1 hour.
Regular, 60 minute presentation
Room: Campsite 4
Accessibility for the web has gained visibility in the last few years, but what about mobile apps? Let's talk about why making your mobile app accessible is just as important, if not more important, than building an accessible website. Spoiler alert, more digital activity happens on mobile than desktop these days. The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) is the widely accepted standard for digital accessibility. As the title implies, these guidelines were written to focus solely on web content, so we'll cover how they can be applied and interpreted for mobile apps. Apple and Google also provide recommendations for building accessible apps, so we’ll discuss how to factor those in as well. Once we understand the importance of building accessible mobile apps and the guidelines that govern the space, we’ll cover how to take action on that information. We’ll talk about the free tools that Apple and Google provide for testing the accessibility of your app. Lastly, I’ll show how you can take accessibility testing even further with axe DevTools Mobile and scale at the enterprise level.
